This Pacific War Coat is made from 33 wool pieces from seven different US Army blankets dating to the WW2 era. I let the pieces fall where they may, and as a result, the silhouette is irregular, and the sides are asymmetrical. I did arrange the pieces so that the sleeve, collar, and bottom edges are all either original serging or selvedge from the vintage blankets. There are no hems on this coat.

Also, the side seams are not sewn. Instead, they are secured with 48 silk ties made from vintage Japanese kimono silks – also from the WW2 era. The ties are all cut on the bias and top-stitched. To accommodate the silk ties, I burned 96 holes in the piecework wool panels. On the left breast there is a tear in the blanket fabric that was mended decades ago, and an original blanket label remains on the back of the coat.

The length is 28-30," the width is 26," and the sleeves are 24" and 26" long. The dress form has a 40" chest. The size is a a generous mens large.
