This vest has many predecessors, and its pattern results from much trial and error. The obi-style ties and wrap style honor the fabric: dead stock material for a mofuku obi – part of Japanese mourning wear.

This heavyweight silk damask, however, was a joy to work with. The chrysanthemum and flowing water motif symbolizes transition and impermanence, wholly appropriate for mofuku.

The width is 18," and the length is 20." The dress form has a 39" chest and a 32"waist.
