This Pacific War Coat is comprised of 76 different wool pieces from five different army blankets from the WW2 era. All the pieces are either squares, rectangles, or triangles. Once I began assembling this piece it quickly turned into a jigsaw puzzle. The diagonal "half squares" remind me of American quilt-making. There's lots of geometry.

But there are no hems. I arranged all the bottom, collar and sleeve edges so that they are either original serging or selvedge from the vintage blankets. The only seams are side seams, which are not sewn. Instead, they are laced with silk cords that I created from vintage kimono silks – also from the WW2 era. I burned 98 holes in the body to accommodate the lacing. A vintage patch original to one of the blankets remains on the front.

The sleeves are 27" long, the width is 26" and the length is ~30". The dress form has a size 40 chest.
