Part of the Pearl Harbor series of Pacific War coats, item B38 pays homage to the USS Oklahoma  BB-37 sunk at Pearl Harbor by Japanese war planes on December 7, 1941. It is made from a WW2 era US army blanket and Japanese kimono silk from the same era.

I reconstituted this coat from an earlier version by deconstructing the collar, creating the fringe, burning holes into the backside, and sewing darts inside the shoulders and arms for easy movement and a shaped fit.

Six silk ties on the inside and outside allow for the coat to be fastened in a variety of ways: left over right (in the Japanese tradition for the living) right over left (following their tradition for the dead), or meeting in the middle.

The body is 28" in length, and the sleeves are 24." The dress form has a 40" chest.
