This Pacific War Coat is constructed from a WW2 era US Marine Corps blanket and Showa era Japanese kimono textiles. The original, chain-stitched military insignia on the blanket has deteriorated and been mended in two spots. The collar is comprised of  ikat-woven Japanese hemp materials dyed with natural, plant indigo. Hemp was a workhorse textile in Japan long before cotton was introduced. These fragments contain more polished fibers, suggesting they used for more formal occasions.

Various repairs on the front and back of the coat include hand-stitched visible mending as well as machine-sewn repairs in numerous thread colors and stitches. The sleeves and bottom are unhemmed with edge-stitching to prevent unravelling. The collar has a narrow tucked pleat, and the indigo hemp pieces are cut on the bias.

• The length is 27," the width is 27," and the sleeves are 22" long

• The dress form has a 39" chest and a 32" waist
