This is the third piece in a new series of quilted jackets. I made the pattern from a vintage bomber jacket, and the sleeve panels are engineered for reaching forward. The fabrics are from a vintage Japanese happi coat that I deconstructed. Darker areas were concealed in hems, and lighter areas were exposed to wear. The kanji characters were stenciled on the collar piece before dyeing. The fabrics are all cotton and dyed with plant indigo.

This coat pattern contains 12 panels. I applied the fabric piecework on each before assembling the panels, and I used a squiggle pattern for the quilting inspired by a vintage Air Force jacket liner. I used a deadstock linen quilt for the lining. The length is 24," and the sleeves are 30." The dress form has a 40" chest.
