This is the first reversible item I have made. Like previous iterations, this bomber jacket is comprised of quilted, piecework cottons, but I also created a complex silk, piecework layer on the reverse side from four kimonos that I deconstructed. Working with silk proved difficult, and the quilting method in this item took on an especially unique character. I also made the silk taping on all the seams from a fifth vintage silk kimono that I deconstructed.

The individual lavender, purple and pink silks feature woven as well as stenciled patterns to create a complex collage. One of the kimono fragments depicts a temple roof rising from a forest, as woven in a damask technique. The cotton side features woven stripes and plant indigo dyed fabrics showing significant wear and fading in some areas.
