The plant indigo dyeing this kimono-style has faded beautifully in places and will continue to do so. I repurposed the fine, lightweight hemp fabric from a vintage Japanese hitoe kimono. It has a simple, small, woven ikat pattern

Although somewhat lightweight, the woven hemp is very durable. There is a natural stiffness to the fabric, which will mold to the wearer and form creases after time. The sleeve edges are unhemmed and expose the selvedge of the loomed fabric. None of the seams are serged. They are either exposed selvedge or felled seams.

The width is 24," the length is 24," and the sleeves are 20" long. The dress form has a 40" chest and a 32" waist.
