I made this piecework kimono coat from a wide variety of salvaged Japanese textiles. It consists primarily of Japanese plant indigo-dyed cotton and ikat-woven hemp pieces. The collar is pieced from bias-cut cottons in rustic, farmhouse weaves that have been dyed with katazome stencil patterns. A textile fragment on the back contains kanji calligraphy, and one sleeve terminates with selvedge stripes and wear marks.

Much hand-sewing and some hand-mending from the original garments remain, as well as loose threads from the deconstruction process. The coat is lined with over-dyed, deadstock Belgian linen. There are no sleeve or bottom hems, and the linen ties in front allow for adjustable closure.

The length is 29," the width is 24," and the sleeves are 25.5." The dress form has a 39" chest.
