Prized pieces of vintage Japanese happi coats comprise this debut piece. I collaged various kanji, stripes, and mon from vintage festival jackets onto a printed linen lining that I over-dyed. This is also the first coat I have made with interior pockets: a larger one on the left breast and a smaller one on the right side.

Wear marks from the vintage happi are evident on the opened seams and hems, and there is discoloration on the backside under the right arm. There is also vintage patching performed by a previous owner, vents on the sides for easy movement, and ties for optional closure. The heavyweight cotton twill combined with the dense linen lining make this a multi-season garment, which can easily be layered because of the boxy fit.

The body is 27" across, the length is 30", and the sleeves are 25" long. The dress form has a 40" chest.
