This is perhaps the most complex piecework jacket I have made to date. Inspired by the American tradition of quilting squares, all the fabric pieces in this garment are roughly 7" x 7." Many stitch lines and layers of fraying have resulted in one of the most textural garments to date.

All of these fabrics have been upcycled from vintage Japanese happi coats that I sourced and deconstructed. I wanted the mash-up of colors, patterns, and symbols to capture the exuberant frenzy of Japanese street festivals where happi coats were designed to be worn.

I over-dyed the handprinted linen lining, which has two interior pockets. There are slits on the bottom side seams, a hanging loop, and ties in the front. The length is 31," the width is 27," and the sleeves are 28." Sizing is between a large and extra large.
