These momohiki style Japanese worker pants are made from two vintage happi coats that I deconstructed. Kanji graphics from the collars and backs identify village associations represented in the festivals where these coats were worn. All the fabric pieces are half the width of traditional fabric looms and bolts.

I created one large piecework panel before constructing the actual pants. Folding this panel and then seaming it in the crotch created visually unpredictable results. Vertical seams for the piecework panels align down the right leg but end up slanting down the left leg.
