Item J36
I made the shell for this bomber jacket from a vintage kimono that I bought at auction and disassembled. The kimono was quite old and showed much wear. Brighter "stripes" in the woven pattern (especially on the back) are due to sections of fabric that were originally protected in deep seams. The background pattern imitates shibori dyeing technique, but is in fact woven. Woven metallic threads give the dragonfly and leaping wave motifs shimmer.
This jacket was commissioned for a 5'4" woman, and I shortened the sleeves based on her measurements. The lining is a woven silk crepe taken from another vintage Japanese kimono.
